The Oscars are this weekend and there's still some chattering about slights, undeserved nods, and whatnot. So, why not add my voice to the cacophony?
The Academy gives a token nod to the comedy genre every few years. Action movies are almost always relegated to the technical category ghetto. Bah! Not here. Having dwelled on this past year's films for literally minutes, I present the Micah World Alternate Reality Oscar nominations for the big six awards*:

1. Before panties are bunched, please recognize that this list is compiled only from the '08 movies that I've seen. There are still a bunch on my "to watch" list.
2. Admittedly, some of these nominations are included as category filler, but I shant reveal who they are. I will say that it seems that I watched a lot of dude-heavy movies last year.
3. The Academy always plays around with what's considered a lead performance and what's a supporting one, and so did I.

I will say it took me a minute to figure out your "Forgetting E C" comment earlier today. That said, I can't help but agree that the film deserves a nod.
Going into '08, I assumed Tropic Thunder would be a comedic blowout. I mean - STILLER! BLACK! DOWNEY, JR.! - how could it not? But Forgetting Sarah Marshall turned out to be the funniest movie of the year, IMO.
Guess getting dumped is a bit more of a universal experience than shooting a big budget Hollywood war movie.
oi, i was really disappointed by most of Tropic Thunder. but your filler's gotta be the actor's noms coming out of Iron Man, no?
speaking of TT, the best performance of the Oscars (non-musical variety) had to be Stiller. it was almost as good as his Simple Jack.
Yeah, Stiller was pretty good, but I watched the Independent Spirit Awards the night before the Oscars and someone (Horatio Sanz?) already did a JP bit. Steve Coogan was Christian Bale, dressed in an Adam West-era Batman get-up. Pretty funny. I'm sure there's a clip on YouTube.
As for the filler, it was mostly in the actress categories. This wasn't the best year for movies overall and, of the ones I saw, a terrible one for the female roles in them.
on your recommendation we watched 'sarah marshall' last night with some roasted chicken and flambed plantains. definitely worth seeing. parker said the scene where he is learning to pop up on the surfboard with the instructor was the funniest scene of the year in any movie. he was laughing so hard he was crying. that brunette is really cute too, who is she?
thinking back, i saw i think only one other comedy this year 'the heartbreak kid' and they about tied for comedic effectiveness. i always think comedies are going to be lame so never put them in my netflix. i should try more.
i've heard that 'caddyshack' movie is pretty good.
Paul Rudd (the surfing instructor) is my current mancrush. The dude's awesome in everything he's in. When he said "Are you from London?" in that accent in FSM, it killed me.
I remember you saying something about The Heartbreak Kid a while back. I'd like to see it sometime. Maybe the library has it.
That chick is Mila Kunis, a tasty little number. Formerly of "That 70s Show" (I was never a fan of it). She's also the voice of Meg in "Family Guy." "Vampire musical!"
