Best of 2006...thus far: books

1. Thank You For Smoking by Christopher Buckley
2. The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown
3. The Shroud of the Thwacker by Chris Elliott
4. Term Limits by Vince Flynn
5. Politicians, Partisans, and Parasites: My Adventures in Cable News by Tucker Carlson
6. Vertical Run by Joseph Garber

True, none of the above were published this year, but that is because: a) I am a slow reader and b) my reading pile is perpetually a couple of feet high. Don't worry - Smoking won't sweep my awards since I haven't heard the soundtrack and there wasn't a video game based on it.

1) i feel you on the slow-reading part. really sucks to be an english teacher and be as slow as your students in reading assignments.

but, wait, that's why i get the summers off! *phew* saved by the bell.

2) i actually like some of c. buckley's stuff (as opposed to his father's), so maybe that'll be the only reading from this list i'll undertake w/in the next year.

3) carlson needs to add an underserved 'p' to his title. Pirates. scalawags need love too.

The Davinci Code? Man that book was bad. I'm sorry I'll have to disagree with you on that one.

1) Yep, it sucks. And I'm jealous of your work schedule.
2) A friend of mine is a big fan of his and she recommended Little Green Men, so that'll probably be the next book of his that I read. As for daddy, I had his word-a-day calendar one year while in college. Scrumtrulescent!
3) What about pneumonia?

matthew - Thanks for stopping by. I explained in an earlier post that, despite the gross factual errors, it was a fun beach read. Short chapters, each ending in a cliffhanger. The downside was that I pictured Tom Hanks' hair while I read it. *shudder*
