Sometimes it pays to wait 11 years

I picked up a used copy of Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill for $2.99 yesterday. I guess it finally got down to the price point I'd pay, plus I was feeling nostalgic for my college years. I also wanted to hear songs from an angry woman with a dirty, dirty mouth (who doesn't know the meaning of the word ironic).

Some CDs I picked up from the library:

  • Patrick Stewart & Orchestre De L'Opera De Lyon - Peter and the Wolf
  • Paul Oakenfold - Bunkka
  • The Corrs - Talk on the Corners
  • Matthew Sweet - Time Capsule
  • Cornershop - When I Was Born for the 7th Time
  • Paul Simon - You're the One
  • Simon & Garfunkel - Greatest Hits
  • Roger Waters - Ca Ira
  • Old 97's - Satellite Rides
  • Old 97's - Fight Songs

I have a lot of copying ahead of me. I'm just praying that the RIAA never finds out about the public library.

Captain Picard has a CD? Is actors making CDs a uniquely Trek thing, or do other performers do it with as much frequency?

I was strolling by the "classical" section at the library and saw the words "Patrick Stewart" and "Peter and the Wolf" and knew I had to check it out.

I'm almost as far from a Trekkie as one can be (never seen a whole episode or movie of any the phases of the show), but I think it's time Stewart and Shatner team up and make some sweet, sweet music.

Wait. Not a single movie? Not a *single* *episode*??

Not only do *I* out-nerd you, my *mom* out-nerds you.

Oh, wait. I probably shouldn't be bragging about that.

Yep. I know the Big Things about the shows/movies: phasers, teleporting, the Enterprise, "Khaaaaan!", etc. But everybody knows that stuff.

I wouldn't be so quick to kick me out of the Nerd Club, though. After all, I have waaaaaay too much knowledge about Monty Python, "The Simpsons", and everything Chris Elliott.

Add the above to my music geekery and devotion to George Romero zombie movies, and I think I qualify for a permanent seat on the Security Council.

I own Reagan (2!), Bush, and Gorbachev dolls. And a didgeridoo. Beat that.

politics don't make you a nerd. They might make you obnoxious, but they don't make you a nerd.

You're right -- *everyone* knows that much about Star Trek. Here, I'll give you a softball: without consultin imdb, which Sex and the City gal was in a Trek movie, which one, and who did she play? This one's a bare minimum for Trek trivia.

I could totally kick your ass re Python and quite possibly Simpsons. You'd probably beat me on Christ Elliott.

I've also played a substantial number of the Final Fantasy games and I get jokes like "All Your Base Are Belong To Us" -- which is REALLY saying something considering I'm a girl. I've *read* Trek books and the book version of Stargate *and* I own seasons 1 and 2 of Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda.

Beat that!

Ummmm...I'm going to have to guess Kim Catrell (sp?). Mainly because she was in "Mannequin" so her choice of movie roles isn't the wisest. (No offense) No clue about parts 2 and 3 of your question.

Okay, I am freely willing to grade to handicap you because of your gender. Maybe you've got me on Monty Python. But "The Simpsons"? No way. Last year's 365 day calendar was a "Simpsons" trivia one and I'd estimate that I got about 80-90% of the questions correct.

Trust me - you don't want to go there.

You can totally have a political component to your nerdiness. Especially if you dressed up like Reagan for Halloween in 6th grade. Which I did.

Did I mention that I used to collect comic books? How about writing a college sociology paper on Terminator 2?

At least I don't do cos-play or go to Renassaince fairs. Those people creep me out.

good lord! feel like i dropped in on a dungeons & dragons message board.

thanks for making me feel cool again, even though i did watch most of the early-to-mid seasons of star trek: the next generation in high school.

lf, would kxuwwh qualify as klingon? if you could answer that, it would resolutely end all questions as to your legitimate nerdiness - you'd be in the hall.

ok, it's the word verification, but i'm still curious.

jasdye - Thanks for bringing that up: I have never played a game of D&D in my life.

kate - "Brimful of Asha" is one of my faves (especially the Fatboy Slim remix). Can't wait to check that album out.

Oh, c'mon. This CD's not that bad. The rest of her catalog, on the other hand...
