Tonight the stars come out to shine...and make overlong acceptance speeches, lame jokes, and simplistic political statements. So join the fun and discuss (or just talk some trash about) the Oscars here - before, during, and after the big show.
And for those keeping tabs on my Oscar pool, you can find a direct link to it here.

I can't wait to claim my free Wendy's lunch at the downtown Cbus location.
If you were to win, you'd be the first to claim that prize. The other winners never made the trek to Cowtown. Their loss. Loves me the #2 combo.
What's number two? Heh heh. Actually, I don't know. The plethora of non-food-court Chick-fil-a's have reduced my Wendy's intake to about as often as I get to Waffle House.
Double cheeseburger, fries, and a drink. Not terribly exciting, but damn good. Here in Columbus, you can't really escape Wendy's. It's like our version of Starbucks.
I started the trash-talk @ 5:17 :)
I think the highest ever for a Micah post was sixty-nine. Feel free to leave some comments over at my blog also (shameless plug).
You know, I am totally flying blind on this whole thing.
I've only seen one of the movies up for best picture, so I am going with a lot of the talk I'm hearing/reading about the nominees.
And I totally think K. Winslet deserves some props this year. She was stellar in Eternal Sunshine...
But I guess I am biased.
KP-kudos on the B&B-head comment.
I did finally get to see "Sideways" the other day and it was pretty good...better than "Aviator" (sorry CB).
Like I said in one of my earlier posts, I've only seen a few of the films. I totally deferred to EW this year (with a few upsets tossed in).
69, dudes!
Now. Martin does make some fine wines. I've sampled plenty. However, "Aviator" left much to be desired. Specifically, the thirty years that Mr. Hughes spent in Las Vega$.
Wine snob!! Wine snob!!
ANNOUNCEMENT: I've made a decision about the Oscar pool prize. There will actually be two prizes awarded.
First Prize: Your choice of a meal at the original Wendy's (the cost is not to exceed the most expensive combo meal) in Columbus, OH, or a DVD (of my choosing)
Second Prize: Whatever the winner didn't pick.
In the event of a tie for first place, the two prizes will be awarded to the winners (who will decide amongst themselves who gets what). There will be no award for second prize. Hey, I gots no job.
I'm confused.
Edit to add: If there are more than two people tied for first place, I'll think of something.
spydrz - Originally, I was only going to award a prize for first place. This'll make it a bit more fun.
A DVD of your choosing? You're going to unload "Cabin Boy" on some unsuspecting winner?
We'll see. I'll have to check what's in the cheapy bin at Best Buy.
Oh, the cheap bin. Three episodes of "The Lucy Show" that were never aired. I'm finding less and less useful DVDs in that bin. Besides, a spicy chicken filet with a sour cream and chive potato are in my future...
I never said it would be a good movie. Sure, I'd love to award a grand work of cinema put out by the Criterion Collection, but as I said earlier, I gots no job. So, whoever wins may just receive one of the finest films the public domain has to offer.
Two-and-a-half stars.

Cabin Boy's definitely in the prize consideration, but I'll have to see what else is offered. C'mon - Letterman shines in that movie.
Is Star Jones some kind of fashion consultant? Because last time I checked, that's a NO.
Who is everybody wearing?
I'm in a sweatshirt by Spiders of Richmond, t-shirt by Francois Capital University Law School, and pants by Georgio Adidas. Tonight's event will be catered by Rotollo's of Worthington (great pizza).
The drink of the nigt will be espresso martinis - so you can be drunk and wired.
KPMD - I'll NEVER part with my movies. Unless I can make a tidy profit.
I'm watching Bawbwa Wawa interview Will Ferrel. VH1 has some great counterprogramming, though: Showgirls.
I'm wearing my jeans by Nordstrom, my shirt by Mr. Lauren, and my socks by Gold Toe.
You're from NJ and you order Domino's? I weep for humanity :(
I am partaking of a Lager by Legend and some popcorn chicken bites by Ukrop's.
Are you serving these espressotinis in the glass shaped like the chiquita banana girl?
Just picked up my pizza. Mmmmmm!
As for the espresso martini, it's just vodka, espresso martini mix, and some mocha rimmer (there's got to be a better word for that). I bought the mix at Sur La Table - the brand is E Nantucket Offshore. Alas, I will be using my individual size shaker, not the penguin.
Rimmer is indeed an unfortunate term.
Now I have a dilemma. Do I start another episode of the Dukes, and possibly get sucked in, or do I find something else to do for the half hour until these awards get passed out?
Man, that really is Sophie's choice.
Who is Sophie?
Time to get catty: Hillary Swank is not an attractive person.
Nope, she's not.
Amen. Now, I'd do Leo if he were a chick. He's got a purty face.
I ABSOULTELY HATE the hairstyle that Laura Linney has. Do people think that's attractive?
Leo subscribe's to the Prince School of Facial Hair.
As for Rene, I agree. I'm worried - she may be terminally ill.
The show started already?
Yeah, VA is quite a classy broad.
Aw, man...loves me some Scarlett. She's gorgeous.
The story of Baby holds no appeal to me, but I've heard other people say they went into it with that mindset and ended up loving it. I'm sure I'll check it out at some point.
Uh, Mindy, that could be interpretted sooooo wrongly. Bitch *snap*.
Hey, if you can't stand the heat, babe...
Why don't you go deny some people the right to get married. :)
There is *nothing* wrong with GWTW!
Decadence?
I hope Rock does his "Niggas vs. Black People" routine.
And the Oscar pool is officially closed. Why do I have this feeling that I should've picked A Shark's Tale?
CB and his "longtime companion."
KPMD - It was your husband that was all friendly with the Gay Cowboy.
CB seems to be embracing another...man!?!?!?!?
We have officially made the longest post *ever*
Catwoman or not, she is hot.
Woo-hoo, I'm on the board!
I dunno, CB. On the one hand there was Olympic Gardens. On the other, Rick's Cabaret.
I'm 1/2 now.
When do they update the Yahoo site?
Mindy - This was a bad year for movies. Don't feel bad.
I had THC for the upset. Oh, well. He RAWKED on "Wings."
I believe Yahoo takes their sweet ol' time.
Oh well, I probably won't stay up for all that.
Shamrock's all the way over in England, silly.
2/3. Not bad so far.
Let's go for 100 posts. WE CAN DO IT!!
3/4 - I'm gonna win my own prize!
I'm not too hot on this whole "presenting and accepting from the aisle" thing.
Ugh, not a fan of Drew. Tom Green could've done sooooo much better.
Beyonce! I would love to have sexual intercourse with her. Hetero enough for you, Mindy?
That's my Mindy. Always accepting of different cultures.
There are five songs nominated for "Best Song" (duh) and are performed throughout the night.
Two hundred posts might be hard to achieve.
spydrz - we're barely a half hour into it and we've reached 100. It can be done.
So the chick who totally butchered "Like a Prayer" in college is getting all critical of Beyonce now? Sheesh.
I'll do my best.
I never thought it would happen: Albert Brooks made me laugh.
Dude, I totally called the Luma Camera Crane. 4/5!
AAAAAAAA!!! Now the comments don't fit on my screen!
Now I'm really 4/5.
Mindy, I'm going to delete your comment for the good of the blog. Sorry.
SJP is not pretty.
I can't speak to cocktails, but after several local microbrews, that's a big 10-4.
You get a blizzard? Awww, all we're getting is heavy rain.
Was there an award given out just now (after Blanchett's, before the documentary)? I was mixing a martini.
5/8...I can feel it slipping away.
I would totally copulate with Kirsten Dunst.
What has Clive Owen done other than all those BMW mini films?
I haven't seen Closer, but every clip that I've seen of it has somebody crying in it. Sounds promising.
So, is Clive Owen going to be the next Bond?
spydrz - He was one of the Treadstone guys tring to kill Matt Damon in The Bourne Identity. I believe he was "The Professor" - the one that tracks him down to the cottage in (Mindy, avert your eyes) France.
Oh, that's right. He was in the Bourne movie. Too bad he didn't make it into the sequel.
So...this Closer movie...it's about the guy who pitches in the last 1/2 inning?
CB - That also makes him an honorary "Friend." Didn't he also "do" Wynona Rider? Man, if his penis could talk...
Adam Sandler and Catherine Zeta Yum...what a beautiful, retarded baby they'd make.
6/9. Using reduction, that's 2/3.
She should probably be renamed Catherine Zeta MILF.
Maybe it's just my case of Yellow Fever, but Ziyi Zhang gets my vote for Hotness of the Night (next to Pacino, of course).
Ha! KPMD and spydrz - They just played a clip from "that movie...about the cop."
What cop movie?
Beverly Hills Cop?
Heat?
Serpico. That was so funny about Shamrock's comment: all movies are about cops.
KPMD - I was taken aback, too. But, he's shown his range before in...wait...it'll come to me.
I'm guessing that KP is referring to the greatest actor of all time.
Christopher Walken.
I'm at 7-11 now. Time for a Slurpee!
I have no idea what my score is. There's an American Hot Rod marathon on Discovery. Goes well with the beer and block of cheese I'm eating.
Okay, now I'm 8-13.
The show gets MAD PROPS for playing the theme to T2.
Still can't stand Laura Linney's hair.
So far, they get my vote for Hottest Couple. I really love Salma.
I take that back. Salma's a Commie!
This ceremony is so ridiculously long...it's like a Clinton speech.
Okay, JC Penny is utilizing Dido's song about drug addiction to hawk their home collection. Nice.
Yeah, I could definitely go for some more hot all-Beyonce action.
She relieved her frustrations by making out at the Western Wall in Jerusalem.
I'd make out with her at the Western Wall.
DVD Talk?
HA HA HA! You actually made me laugh out loud (LOL) just now, KPMD.
I wasn't literally rolling on the floor laughing (ROTFL), though.
You are the one with your priorities out of whack, my friend. I'd gladly root for the star of The Island of Dr. Moreau over the dude who won the Cold War, anyday.
Paul Winfield died? That slipped under my radar.
Oh, and Yahoo is updating the results (very slowly), if you want to check on 'em. Nothing overall, but you can see individual scores.
KPMD - Well, I agree there. I've never seen any of Russ Meyer's movies, but I've seen pictures. NICE! Of course, I'm a very, very lonely man.
Mmmmm...Beyonce. Damn, she's got some birthin' hips. It's hard to type with only one hand.
I'm drinking my martini with the other, you pervs.
I'm out yo.
Translation: "I love enforcing socialism and its resulting poverty on my people, not to mention the opression and death and stuff."
Nighty-night, spydrz.
KPMD - So does my mom.
"She's the first woman to be nominated for playing a boxer." Wow - she's breaking down more barriers than Halle!
Get off the stage and put the camera on the HOTTIE next to Sean Penn.
Psssst...He was the Pets.com dog, not Triumph.
Who was the blonde in the Johnny Bluejeans commercial? I've seen her on "I Love the _____'s", but what else does she do?
Dude, you got digital cable. Press the button.
THE SHOCK OF THE NIGHT!!!
Just a correction: it was a "novy blue tux-ado."
As for the points race, there's still the bonus question to contend with.
Naw, the bonus question ain't just for ties. It's too late and alcohol-soaked to be doing math right now, so I'm not sure how it'll pan out.
"This is Scorese's fifth snub for 'Best Director'" is what they should've announced (it is 5, CM?)
So apparently Leo is Scorsese's new Deniro?
Goodnight. I'm not too long for this world, either.
I think the broadcast went 12 or so minutes over, depending on when they call it "over" (Chris Rock saying goodnight, end of the credits).
1550. Well played, Joe!
Goodnight, Mindy.
The leaderboard has been updated at our pool page. Can someone explain how Doug took first place with his measley 500 points?
As owner and administrator of the pool, I'm going by number of points, not rank. Unless the Supreme Court gets involved.
And, the Blog Oscar for longest comment thread, goes to, goes to Micah World.
Wow - am just happy to be no.230
I win!! I get the spicy chicken filet combo!!
RuKsaK - And now you're part of blog history. :)
spydrz - As mentioned earlier, just because you were "ranked" #1, you in fact had the least amount of points. This ain't golf. Sorry.
